About the role
The successful candidate will join Fortus to work across a diverse and varied portfolio of clients, supporting managers with a wide range of accountancy and taxation services. This includes bookkeeping, preparation of accounts, and tax computations, offering exposure to meaningful, hands-on work from day one. At its core, the Accounts Executive role is about being a valued member of our collaborative accounts team, playing a key role in delivering high-quality compliance services and building trusted relationships with our clients.
Key responsibilities
Client and portfolio support
- Supporting a portfolio of clients throughout the year, managing deadlines, expectations, and fee processes
- Building positive relationships with clients and responding to queries in a timely and professional manner
Accounts, tax and compliance
- Preparing year-end and management accounts for sole traders, partnerships, and limited companies, including FRS 102, 1A and 105
- Preparing bookkeeping records and VAT returns
- Assisting with corporation tax computations
- Supporting company secretarial filings and statutory submissions to Companies House
Technology, teamwork and problem solving
- Using and promoting cloud accounting solutions, including supporting client transitions to digital platforms
- Identifying and helping to resolve technical issues, escalating where appropriate
- Working collaboratively with managers and the wider team to deliver high quality compliance services
Skills and experience
- AAT qualified and working towards ACCA or ACA qualification
- Experience using key accounting software packages such as Xero, Sage, and QuickBooks, along with a good working knowledge of Excel
- A solid understanding of UK GAAP and Companies Law
- Knowledge of current accounting and tax compliance standards, including FRS 102, FRS 102 1A and FRS 105
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to engage confidently with colleagues and clients
- Strong analytical skills with a high level of attention to detail
- Awareness of recent developments in accounting and tax compliance
Working arrangements
- Location: The role will be based in our York office, with the requirement to work from any of our other Yorkshire based sites as needed
- This is a full time (37.5 hrs per week) permanent role, with flexibility to work outside of standard hours if required
